Last of The Mohicans

Last Of The Mohicans V. Rime Of The Ancient Mariner There are both similarities and differences between Last of the Mohicans and Rime of theAncient Mariner. Both of these tales are considered to be epics. James Fenimore Cooper andSamuel Taylor Coleridge were both "Romantics." Both were "Romantics" but Cooper was an"American Romantic" while Coleridge was a traditional "English Romantic." Both were greatstories , but only one was made into a major motion picture. Rime of the Ancient Mariner waswritten as a poem, and Last of the Mohicans was written as a story but later composed to amovie. There are many obvious similarities and differences between the two. One similarity between Last of the Mohicans and Rime of the Ancient Mariner was, thatin both stories there was a "last man standing." Rime of the Ancient Mariner's last man standingwas the mariner himself. While in the Last of the Mohicans the actual last Mohican wasChingachgook. The mariner was the last man on the boat alive after the other one hundredninety-nine men were killed after two gods rolled dice for their lives. Chingachgook was the last

The Huron spoke in French and could understandwhat Duncan proposed. In Lastof the Mohicans it was very spontaneous of Alice to throw her self off of the cliff while Maguaand others stood by and looked on. Usually with Native Americans there would be because they believe very heavily in gods butthat's not the case in this story. The Huron wanted to take Cora and burn her at the stake for being the kin ofa British general. Just like there would be differences andsimilarities between any other two stories or authors. Another similarity between the two stories is the spontaneity both authors used. Another difference between the two stories is how honorable a person was assassinated. It was settled by the two gods instead of being blown away by muskets or broken intotwo by weapons in Last of the Mohicans. and Hawkeye battled the Huron Indians (Mainly Magua) to save the two women, one whom Hawkeye loved (Cora) and the other woman (Alice) loved Uncus butcommitted suicided after Magua murdered Uncus in cold blood. The killing done in Rime of the AncientMariner was heartless also but it was like the sailors destiny to die and the mariners destiny tostay alive. They were just common casualties after Death wonthem in his dice game. At first Hawkeye offered to take him in barter of Cora, but Hawkeye could not speak French, so instead Duncan interpreted what Hawkeye asked, but instead told the Huron totake him because he was a British officer. Both the mariner andChingachgook were independents after their struggle to survive. One more difference between the two stories is the primitive effect used in them.
