second hand smoke

I'm sure that everyone in this room has gone out to eat sometime in the past for a formal or special occasion. Things like these take time: you have to dress up nice, make reservations, make sure you have your best manners, etc... Now, imagine you're going out to eat an expensive restaurant for the celebration of your great-grandmother's 88th birthday. You're whole family is there: your great grandmother, you grand father, your parents, you and you're nephew. You arrive at the restaurant, take your seats, and then it hits you! You've made a terrible mistake! You might as will have made reservations for the hospital, and maybe even the cemetery by choosing this restaurant. What could be so horrible, you're probably asking yourself? Food poisoning? (pause) A robbery? (pause) You didn't bring enough cash to pay for the bill? (pause) No, it's much worse than all of these. I'm talking about the silent killer, the murderer that travels undetected, the killer that is always there, waiting for you, hidden like a thief in the night. Who could this dangerous executioner be? Second Hand Smoke! You're probably thinking to yourself "second hand smoke? What a bunch of bs!" But it's not. Second-hand smoking i

It KILLS thousands of people each year! Second hand smoke is serious a serious matter. A common belief of restaurant owners and managers is that banning smoking would have negative effects on their business by, losing customers who want to smoke. Many restaurants designate one area as smoking, and the other as non-smoking, which isn't effective unless an outstanding ventilation system is used. Smoking in restaurants and the workplace is disgusting, unnecessary, and intolerable. Do you let people force alcohol down your throat or heroin into your body when you go out to eat? So why should you let them force smoke down your lungs? (Example) How many people like the taste of cigarette ash sandwich? Banning smoking in restaurants would make the restaurants much cleaner, healthier, and better smelling places to eat. She said that even when she smoked, she still couldn't stand the smell of other people smoking while she ate a meal! Not even smokers can stand the smell of other people smoking while they eat a meal! Smoking should also be banned in the workplace even more than restaurants. We can no longer allow eating, which is life sustaining, and smoking, which is life destroying, to coexist in the same room! Smoking must be banned from all restaurants and workplaces! So the next time you go out to eat at a nice restaurant, consider making reservations where smoking isn't permitted. It's important that all employees have safe work environments. Studies in New York City, Massachussetts, and Texas have proved this wrong, showing that the banning of smoking resulted in no adverse in business. Smoke filled rooms attract downscale consumers, so by banning smoking, restaurants could attract better customers. Smokers also argue that banning smoking in restaurants and the workplace is a violation of basic human rights. It contributes to millions of cases disease and disability, as well as thousands of deaths of American children. It also has been linked to 37,000 cases of heart disease each year, and regular exposure to second hand smoke double's a woman's risk of heart attack. If you work in a restaurant where smoking is permitted, you're taking in polluted air every breath that may cause some problems down the road.
