Globalisation

Globalisation definitely benefits some countries more than others and it usually the poorer countries that come out the worst? (need something better!!!) With the click of a mouse button or a rumour from word of mouth, a nations currency can be thrown into turmoil, while on the other side of the world millions of jobs are created. This essay will discuss and justify why richer countries are getting most of the benefits from globalisation.
Poor countries need the technology and resources to participate and benefit from globalisation and without assistance they are unable to do so. This has resulted in an argument over whether globalisation is the cause for making the rich richer and the poor poorer. Discussing services such as telecommunications, banking and insurance, the report Globalisation and the Future of Poor countries states:
Poor countries are being persuaded to privatise these sectors and open them to foreign investment. Although these measures will likely bring in more capital and better technology, improve efficiency and reduce cost, it would require a substantial deregulation of the foreign exchange market with unpredictable risks (Islam 2002:para. 10).
Some poverty stricken nations however take this risk.
There have been many places that have benefited from globalisation, one in particular being Asia. Asia freed itself from poverty by taking part in the world trading economy, exporting products and allowing foreign production in. It is logical to reason though, that the main players in globalisation are the organisations of rich countries. They have the resources and technology to invest in developing countries leaving the least developed countries without foreign investment.
