I like the movie better than the book because in the book I can get a picture in my mind about what is happening, but I might not be picturing the right thing. In the book Mae hit the Man in the yellow suit in the back of the head with a gun. In the movie he just went inside uninvited. In the book the Tucks talk to a waiter. In both the Man in the yellow suit planned to sell the spring water to people who deserved it. In the movie Jesse was working at the fair and he met a girl named Kathy who was scared when she was on the merry-go-round. In the movie Winnie took Angus’s place in jail. In the movie Winnie hoped that the Man in the yellow suit would die, but in the book she wanted him to live so Mae wouldn’t go to the gallows. In the book they see the toad again and they pick it up to put it across the street. In the movie they talked to a waitress. In the book the Man in the yellow suit knocked on the door to the Tuck’s house. Then he makes a deal with the Fosters that if he brought Winnie home he would get the wood. In the movie there is a milkman, but there is no milkman in the book.
