The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson in the year of 1776. It was signed on the date of July 4th, 1776. This document was written under great circumstances. The main reasons that this was written was because the men and women of the colonies were upset with King George the third. King George the third was trying to rob the colonist of their three greatest possessions in the New England. Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for themselves in the New World. In this document Jefferson offers many rights to the new Americans. "He was endeavored to prevent the population of these states; for that purpose obstructing the laws for naturalization of foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migration hither, and raising the conditions of new appropriations. He also added that it is the right for the colonists to abolish the rule and power that England had over them and institute and newly formed government on their standards. The colonist wanted to separate from England because they wanted rights.
