Music censorship

             Is there a need for Censorship on Music Lyrics?
             Music, mainly concerning rock, metal, hip hop and rap genres are constantly under controversy because of their lyrics which regularly contain either sexual, violent, racist or offensive language. While arguers claim that it is unsuitable for the general public, observing that it has the potential to corrupt the minds of the general public in our society today.
             In spite of this, those opposing to the idea of censorship on music, protest that lyrics should not be censored; to silent out expletives or the make it inaccessible, is to withhold the musicians' right to freedom of expression.
             Most of the Singers and songwriters along with their supporters such as the producers, record companies and listeners oppose to the notion of censorship because it is restraining the musicians from freedom of expression. They are all stakeholders in this battle to fight against censorship on music. Publicists and Advertisers have also taken part of this dispute because they promote the musicians to their target audience and this argument against censorship is mostly due to their target audience-the youth. Then there are the watchdog groups, the Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA), the parents and guardians of the adolescents concerned. Psychiatrists have also become part of this ongoing dispute on censorship for music because of to their studies on the effects of music.
             Contrasting Ideas Opinions and the effects of their ramifications
             The musicians which are often in the middle of the debate, such as modern singers of rock, metal rap and hip hop usually have a target audience of young adults, individuals whom are at a time of vulnerability. For this reason, others, mainly older people, believe the lyrics sung by the musicians are inappropriate because they have the capability of distorting the young adults' susceptible minds with offensive language, violent, sexual, or racial imagery.
