capital punishment
Capital punishment is the topic for my research paper, because the subject brings up many controversial issues. All the issues connecting to capital punishment can carry many opinions and moral concerns. To take a man’s life away from him can be very cruel, because what gives somebody the right to take another man’s life? Especially, when it is stated in the Bill of Rights in opposition to cruel and unusual punishment; but on the other hand to others, capital punishment is the only reasonable way. What is the equal cost of a person’s life? Maybe another man life in return? Furthermore, I have been seeing inmates set free from execution. Therefore, is there a possibility that there are innocent people on death row? With inmates wanting DNA tests, which are available to them, there have been many retrials, due to new evidence. There are also cases in which the inmates were really innocent, but somehow were linked to the act. I have recent seen many inmates be release from the death penalty and be set free; therefore, if makes me wonder if there is something wrong with our justice system. As a result, of all the law and ethical questions behind this subject matter, capital punishment is a very captivating area to gain k . . .
(Brandon 135) Another way capital punishment has changed is the way it’s carried out. And by the 1990, there was an excess of 2,000 inmates waiting on death row, more than one hundred and eighty had been executed, and a number of 300 inmates added on to the list every year. California held the largest number of execution, then followed Texas, and then Florida. Vilbig states that at 17, Shareef was sent to death row in Louisiana’s maximum-security prison at Angola, the youngest person in the world under sentence for death. A murder trail is cheaper then a capital trial. In the sixteen century if treason and murder was committed, then capital punishment was the result of the crime. It is a very controversial issue to everyone, especially if you lost a love one or know someone that is on death row. Which leaves 85% of the inmates that has no families or friends. But in his case there were error that could possibly make him innocent; so why was the cases not looked into and have a retrial? But the one main evidence the court had was a testimony for one person and Troy was sentence to death. People that are for capital punishment believe that it is fair and it gives the victim’s family a sense of justice. More men then women favor the death penalty. (Vila and Morris 16) When capital punishment began after WWII, many people did not approve of it. The number executed was 29 greater than in 1996and was the largest annual number since the 76 executed in 1995. I have also learned that race; age, sex, etc. When a criminal was executed, family and friends were allowed to watch their love be killed.
