Characteristics of a Modern Day Hero

             With all the controversial opinions concerning anyone brought into the limelight, it's considerably difficult to find a modern day hero. Sure, you get to hear one point of view on how brave, valiant, and wonderful this hero is ... Then you also end up taking notice of the opinions of those who think this "hero" is the root of all evil. You don't often find someone that nearly everyone supports. Look at President George Bush for example; loved by many, loathed by many. Personally I feel it is better this way. If a possible hero or heroin is loved by all, then without the pressure they would not rise to their full potential. I think to be a hero in modern society you must have your supporters, but then also the people who think lowly of you. But despite either group's judgments, a real hero would base his decisions on what was best for his people, and himself.
             I regard Tony Blair, the Prime Minister of Britain as being a hero in today's society. When the issue with Iraq arose, he stood by the United States, as an ally. His decision was definitely not what many people over in Britain wanted, and it was probably not the best thing for his country; but it was the best thing for the world overall, and it confirmed that Britain would be loyal to America. If Tony Blair loses too much support, he could lose his place in parliament. Therefore he risked this to do what he thought was best. These actions cause me to form sincere respect for him, and consider him a modern day hero.
             Somewhat like how Tony stood beside the United States in the War on Terrorism, I feel that Arthur "participating" in the Rites of Beltane with Morgain Le Faye was a sacrifice that unquestionably was not something he would choose for himself, and he was selected solely for the purpose of ensuring the continued existence of Camelot and Avalon.
