             Events Leading Up To The Beatles Coming to America
             In mid 1963, The Beatles were at the top of the England's music scene with hit songs such as "Please Please Me", "From Me To You" and "She Loves You". Beatlemania was at its full swing all over the country. "With The Beatles", their second album, was released on November 22nd, 1963 and went straight to number one on the charts. Consequently, this brought down the previous number one album, "Please Please Me", which was their debut album released earlier in the year. These two albums went on to set a record that no other artist has come anywhere near: fifty consecutive weeks at the number one spot (20 weeks for "Please Please Me" and 21 weeks for "With The Beatles").
             By the end of 1963 the Beatles had overwhelmed the British pop scene and media in way that had never happened before and is unlikely to occur ever again. However, this was only happening in Britain. Brian Epstein, the manager of the Beatles, knew that the next big step for the Beatles is to gain the same popularity in America as in Britain.
             The one main reason why the Beatles has not gain as much attention as they were getting in Britain was that Capitol Records in America did not want to release anything by the Beatles. Their reasoning behind the rejections was that Americans would not be interested in a Rock & Roll band from Britain. George Martin, Beatles' producer, was also responsible for licensing Beatles' work overseas. He sent a copy of "Please Please Me" to Capitol Records hoping that they will change their minds. Capitol rejected the offer once again. George Martin eventually found a small independent label in Chicago, Vee Jay Records, to release all the Beatles' singles.
