             Today I am looking at how Diane, a fifth-grade teacher at Oneida Elementary, handles the different ethnic groups and socioeconomic statuses in her classroom. Oneida Elementary is located in the lower middle class section of the city. The school is over crowded, and there is very short time to spend with each child. Diane's classroom is built for twenty-five students but the school system packs thirty-one students into her tiny classroom.
             Diane seemed to be a very culturally responsive teacher. During her lesson on adjectives she called on twenty-one different students. Diane did not have any favorites amongst boys or girls. Diane did not discriminate between ethnic groups, nor did she care if a student was from a Low Socioeconomic Status or a rich family. Diane was doing her job by just being a teacher.
             Gender diversity plays a large role among students at young ages. Gender diversity is often over looked by many people as being a type of diversity. This particular fifth-grade classroom divided almost perfect between boys and girls, with boys having the one extra number. The case of gender diversity would look at how many times boys are called on compared to girls, or how well grades may compare according to gender. Diane Smith during her lesson called on eleven boys and ten girls. The case that she may be discriminating between boys or girls could not even be disputed in this classroom. Gender diversity is all around us, but how we handle the diverse crowds is what makes diversity deadly.
             Ethnic discrimination can be a very touchy subject around the world at times. Today there are more than 170 Native American and 100 non-Native American ethnic groups living in the United States.
