Revolution
At the ending point of the war the articles of confederation were starting to show flaws. The articles were made of a weak central government and strong state governments. This combination allowed for the sections of the United States to grow farther apart by allowing them to pass laws that would not be able to restrict the power of the other section so the more states that were behind the section the stronger its leverage in the central government was. The south ate the weak central government because they knew the north would not be able to abolish slavery. During the years of sectionalism there were two main sections the north, and the south. The north was very business orientated. While the North was not known for its agricultural production it was the largest producer of grain. Life was faster and commerce important. Many delegates feared a strong central government that could grow to strong. Again the south argued the right to nullification. In the years to come there were many issues to be worked out like slavery, representation, state rights and a neutral leader that would connect our separated country. On the other hand the north supported tariffs to protect industry the tension between the two sections led to the right of nullification. Representation was next on the list each section wanted power to pass laws. was primarily based upon the existence of large plantations. Others favored a democratic but strong central government that would stay neutral and bring the two sections that were still growing apart together. It seemed as if northern laws no longer applied to the south. This meant the more states backing the section the more representation that section got in congress. Tariffs were one of the dividing factors the south depended on goods from Britain for every day life and they resented all tariffs. At the second continental congress in Philadelphia, delegates met to discuss the creation of a new form of government. How did the revolution change the lives of Americans socially?It was not until after the revolution that the American people changed socially.
