Herbert hoovers accomplishments
President Herbert Hoover said, "Blessed are the young for they shall inherit the national debt." Sadly, this is this is the way most people remember President Hoover. He was most known for supposedly causing The Great Depression, but he had many great accomplishments. A little known fact about him is that Hoover was actually a wonderful humanitarian. Even though during his presidency he was not very popular, he was one of our most popular politicians before he entered office. Nothing ends happily ,however; unfortunately he was blamed for causing the Great Depression. Hoover is one of the few presidents who was not a major political or military leader before he took office. He was actually a humanitarian. According to PageWise, at the outbreak of World War I, Hoover was asked to serve as head of the Commission for the Relief of Belgium. That helped provide food to the victims of war in Belgium. Hoover sacrificed all he had in order to feed the victims in Belgium; that included giving up his salary to pay for supplies. Hoover tried to resolve the issue by warning federal banks and brokers, but officials would not listen to him. Hoover became so popular with the people that his program for food conservation soon became known as "Hooverizing. " That statement is very appropriate. Hoover started his political career by serving as Secretary of Commerce under Presidents Harding and Coolidge. Hoover won the election of 1926 by one of the biggest majorities in the history of the Republican Party. Since Hoover had served under two Republicans, he chose to stand with the Republican side. Most people tend to remember him for his failure and The Great Depression when in reality he accomplished a great deal for this country. While Smith had more political background and positions on issues and knew what he was fighting for, Hoover had the greater admiration from the American people, both Democrats and Republicans. Hoover's program reduced domestic consumption of food by 15% without rationing. When America declared war on Germany in 1917, Hoover was asked to return home to take up the duties of the United States Food Administrator. He was so popular as Secretary of Commerce that both the Democrats and Republicans wanted him on their side. While it may not be an accomplishment, it certainly was the most famous occurrence while Hoover was in office. They insisted the stock market was fine. " Hoover was an extremely popular man before he was elected in 1926 even though he had no professional political or military background.
