“Do computers really connect children to the world?” argues the Alliance for Childhood (AFC) in the article “Questions the Benefits of Classroom Computers”. In my opinion, I totally agree with the article and the impact of computers on the world. After hearing that, I began to realize the negative impacts of computers gradually and limited the hours I sit in front of the computer everyday. Children like spending most of their time on the Internet chatting with their friends, e-mailing and browsing. They have become an important part of our daily life. I have a friend whose younger brother is about seven years old. Computers are also found in elementary schools and kindergarten. I would like to quote a few examples from my own life. I am not saying games are useless, in fact they do help children in learning the usage of computers faster, it does improve their typing techniques and concentration, but later, long-term usage of the computer games may become an addiction. This may make children weak in their fundamentals because by reading textbooks and journals a child can understand better than using a computer for learning. This indeed, is not going to help them in any way and it just keeps them isolated from everything healthy around them. They can be found everywhere (home, office, school, etc). The Internet plays a very important role in a child"tms life. "Children" as the word itself suggests they have got a child"tms mind and as mentioned earlier they haven"tmt got the mature mind to judge what is good or bad for them, unfortunately they get attracted to unwanted violent games, adult material and advertisements. Computers are turning children's lives, at home and at school, in a very unexpected way. This gives children more access to computers.
