Olympic Games
The Olympic games: series of games that took place every four years to honor the king of the gods, Zeus. The purpose of the Olympic games was to serve as a natural break between wars. If you were an athlete participating in the Games, you were allowed safe conduct to Olympia for the games from wherever you were, even if you were on the battlefield. No fighting was allowed during the Games, and safe conduct was also granted to athletes returning from the Games. Time has gone on and many regulations have changed or disintegrated. Immediately after this was voted the athletes who had worked so hard all their life and waited these four years voiced their opinions. This was yet another example of how the US noticeably protested against the Soviets through the Olympic games. It is an opportunity for athletes around the world to take pride in their nation and compete for the gold. However, when you combine anything with nationalism you get the ever-feared result of political influence.
