Blood Pressure

Everyone has been to the doctor and had their blood pressure taken, but do they really know what it means? Most people don't. One may know what their blood pressure is and if it's within a normal range but actually has no idea as to what it really is. In the follow paragraphs I will tell explain what your blood pressure means, the normal ranges, and how to take blood pressure. Blood pressure is the force of blood against the walls of the arteries. Blood pressure is written as two separate numbers, first the systolic and then the diastolic. Together, they are the force of blood against the walls of the arteries. The systolic number is obtained when the heart contracts or beats against the walls of the arteries. The diastolic number is obtained when the heart relaxes between beats. Most people know systolic as the "top number" and diastolic as the "bottom number." The measurement of blood pressure is written one above or below the other with the systolic on top and the diastolic on the bottom. For example, a blood pressure may be recorded as 118/78 mmHg (millimeters of mercury). This would be verbalized as "118 over 78." Blood pressure can be classifie

When it is released the blood starts flowing again. This is why two different readings could be obtained from the same person at the same time. The first beat you will hear as the pin goes down the gauge is the systolic number. Hypotension or low blood pressure can be caused by certain medical conditions or diseases. In my job, at the hospital, all blood pressures are taken electronically on a machine called a Dinamap. This machine also records the heart rate. I hope that this essay has been beneficial in educating some of my fellow classmates and anyone that reads it. A normal range for an infant is 74-100 mmHg systolic and 50-70 mmHg diastolic and for toddlers 80-112 mmHg systolic and 50-80 diastolic. A few of these conditions are nervous system disorders, endocrine disorders, certain drugs, infections, prolonged bed rest, or shock. While holding the stethoscope in place with one hand, pump up the cuff with the other hand until pin on gauge is at about 160 mmHg. Several people in my class seemed to never get their ear tuned to hearing Pulliam3it. Pulliam 2 Normal blood pressure is defined as less than 120 mmHg systolic and 80 mmHg diastolic or "120 over 80. When I first learned about blood pressure and how to take it about two years ago it was hard for me to hear at first. Sometimes, it's hard to hear the heartbeats so your ear kind of has to get "tuned" to the sound. For preschoolers, a normal range is 82-110 mmHg systolic and 50-78 mmHg diastolic.
