How Prepared Am I for College Writing? I've always thought of myself as a decent writer. Not necessarily amazing but I don't usually struggle to write a paper either. Having been at the community college to finish up my high school years has greatly helped my writing. Honestly, English hasn't been my favorite class for as long as I can remember. But before I began at the college, I hadn't paid enough attention to all the things the teachers were trying to pound into our heads. Even with all the sweat and labor, I still believe that there are many things needed to get me up to college writing standards. Year after year goes by and I still have more English classes that I need to take. One of the things I struggle with is a thing that I've heard referred to as writer's block. To tell you the truth it still confuses me but I try regardless. It's been a problem ever since I began writing essays. As hard as I tried, I could never get myself to grasp this concept. Things like highlighting and annotating will definitely help in the future. I guess this is a good thing because I am definitely no writing expert. Another problem of mine would be the thesis statement. Another thing I learned was that once you have the reader reading the paper, you need to find a way to keep them hooked. thesis statement or you won't have a good paper. I can't seem to get any ideas of things to write about. Even with the many years of English before this one, there are still flaws and errors I can fix to make myself an even better writer. Even with all the words I have on a paper, without a strong thesis statement my paper is practically useless? I thought I would never understand.
