The client
John Grisham the author of The Client has become a very popular author. The Firm and The Pelican Brief each became number one best sellers. He simply had everyone reading. In this book there is a great deal of suspense; it's about a young boy that has a tough childhood and was trying to be a father figure to his younger brother. He was a young hero. The 11 year old boy Mark Sway goes on a journey of his life and shows us how brave and smart he is. Yet the system who are supposed to be on his side, don't really care for him. There have also been different opinions about this novel. He witnesses an attorney commit suicide the attorney tells him a secret, and that causes a lot of action for Mark and his family. When he realized what was really going on he decided to seek help, but even the people that wanted to help him he didn't accept their help, especially that of a woman. Eleven-year-old Mark Sway is trying to be a father to his eight-year-old brother Ricky. Their father was an alcoholic, and sometimes he would come home and beat them and their mother (36). In Mark's heart he felt that he needed to be a father figure to his brother; he should be the one to protect his family. For example, he would protect him from bullies;
Foltrigg had told him:He doesn't need a lawyer. For instance, when he was witnessing attorney Jerome Clifford committing suicide by putting a hose on the tail of his car, he knew that that could kill him; he knew exactly what Jerome's intent was (5). The system seems to want more harm than any good for Mark. Other authors, like Christopher Lehman Haupt had called Mark a little punk. he can't keep quiet if he is afraid of what might happen to him or his family. the judge will put him in jail if he doesn't talk. It kind of gave us the message that even the good guys can try to talk you into something you don't want to do, or it benefits them but they don't care what happens to you, as long as they got what they wanted. Ricky had a lot of respect for his older brother; in fact he seemed to be scared of him. Their mother is getting a new job and the white house with the walk in closet she always wanted. The other conflict and message in this book is a young boy who seems to have an attitude, who seems to be a young punk, is being mistreated by the system. That shows the readers how smart and brave he was and not a young punk. Finally he gets to live the live he always wanted to, no problems with money anymore. The FBI was giving him a hard time too.
