A Separate Peace- Chapter by Chapter Review

Chapter one starts out fifteen years after Gene Forrester has graduated from the Devon School, and exclusive all boys' prep school in New England. He returns to the school to visit two particular places on the school campus. As he walks through the school he is very descriptive. About all that has changed and all that hasn't changed. He describes how he feels about the school. After he finds both places the setting goes back to 1942, where Phineas is introduced. He was Gene's best friend and roommate. They are by the tree where Phineas gets hurt the first time. You don't know about the injury till halfway through the book, but you know that the tree will be a big part of the book. The plot is also very believable. The adventures of boys at school through two years and how their friendship is affected during the war and events that happen. The first part of the chapter is almost boring but once you travel back in time to 1944 the book becomes interesting. I liked hot everything was so descriptive, and how you know right away how the two boys act and how different they are from each other.
Chapter 2 starts with Mr. Prud'homme confronting them about their absence at dinner the night before. In this chapter you find out how much of a sweet talker Phineas is. He can get out of anything. And just by explaining the reason they were late and relating it to something that can't get them in trouble he of course gets out of trouble. The mood is good because the two have just gotten out of trouble. The characters introduced were Mr. Prud'homme and Mr. Patch-Withers. The "Super Suicide Society of the Summer Session" was also introduced. The society is where a group of boys gather at "the tree" each night and watch gene and finny jump out of the tree. The characters are realistic and the plot is believable. There is always going to be an adult confronting you about something you've done...
