A Separate Peace- Chapter by Chapter Review

Chapter one starts out fifteen years after Gene Forrester has graduated from the Devon School, and exclusive all boys' prep school in New England. He returns to the school to visit two particular places on the school campus. As he walks through the school he is very descriptive. About all that has changed and all that hasn't changed. He describes how he feels about the school. After he finds both places the setting goes back to 1942, where Phineas is introduced. He was Gene's best friend and roommate. They are by the tree where Phineas gets hurt the first time. You don't know about the injury till halfway through the book, but you know that the tree will be a big part of the book. The plot is also very believable. The adventures of boys at school through two years and how their friendship is affected during the war and events that happen. The first part of the chapter is almost boring but once you travel back in time to 1944 the book becomes interesting. I liked hot everything was so descriptive, and how you know right away how the two boys act and how different they are from each other.Chapter 2 starts with Mr. Prud'homme confronting them about their absence at dinner the night before. In this chap

I liked this chapter because it seemed to bring the book full circle. This chapter also explains how after the summer term is over Gene goes home and once the winter term starts aback up he goes to visit Finny at his house where again finny wont listen when gene tries to explain how the accident happened. Also during this chapter Cliff Quackenbush is introduced. The plot in this chapter is very sequential in the fact that it goes from scene to scene without skipping periods of time except for the time Gene spends home during break. They also skip school and go to the beach that night and it is where finny tells gene that he is his best friend. I liked this chapter because it really shows how good of a friendship the two boys have until that last part of the chapter. This is somewhat believable because in Gene's words "I could not escape that this was my funeral too, and you can't cry in that case". Over probably 3 minutes they have created a new game called blitzball. Then to everyone's surprise leper is brought in to clear everything up. The actions in this chapter are realistic because when you are being told something you don't want to believe you most likely wont listen to it. You see that Finny too is becoming more adjusted to life now, and he seems to be happy. CHAPTER THIRTEENThis chapter starts after graduation where Brinker and Gene have decided to enlist into the war. Also Gene tells everybody that leper has gone crazy. It got confusing and seemed to drone on.
