Arnold Schwarzenegger

He is most well known for catch-phrases like "I'll be back" and "Hasta la vista, baby" but acting is only one dimension of Arnold Schwarzenegger's life. Long before his successful movie career he was a world champion athlete who came to this country in search of the American Dream. Arnold arrived in America as a young immigrant with little money and a lot of ambition. Within a few years, he showed the world that the first step to fame and fortune is taking control of one's self. He sculpted his body into a championship symbol of power. He turned bodybuilding into a competitive sport, and he made it popular among men and women looking for new ways to find strength and health. As we will see today, Arnold has pumped himself out of the fitness movement, into the movies, and now he's continuing to move by attempting to change his address from Hollywood to Sacramento in his newest career endeavor. On July 30, 1947 Arnold was born in the tiny village of Thal-By-Graz, Austria. He grew up poor, living in medieval-like conditions. Arnold was raised alongside his older brother Meinhard in a strict, Catholic household. As a child, Arnold spent many hours in a movie theater watching Hercules films that starred va

Arnold's infatuation with America further cemented his resolve. Pumping Iron was a documentary film that followed various bodybuilders, including Arnold, on their quest for the Mr. When the recall election in California was announced, Arnold threw his name into the political ring, hoping to become the next Republican Governor of California. Over the next few years his films became increasingly technological and violent, they included Commando, Predator, The Running Man, and Total Recall. Although Arnold has little experience in politics, many preliminary polls have shown that Californians will vote for the would-be governor if the Republican Party supports his candidacy. Then in the early 80s, Arnold established himself as a leading man in new generations of Herculean action films, beginning with Conan the Barbarian and its sequel Conan the Destroyer. If elected Arnold promises to re-ignite California's economy, to put California's school system at the top, and to modernize the operation of our state government. In 1968 he received a business degree from the University of Wisconsin and began investing in various real estate projects and bodybuilding equipment companies. Arnold finally landed his first substantial acting role in the offbeat comedy Stay Hungry. "It was a very American sport, and I thought, 'If I do well, it could take me to America'" (Hoberman, 1991, p. At the age of eighteen Arnold enlisted in the Austrian Army for his mandatory one-year service. However, in the 1960s there were two distinct worlds in bodybuilding: Europe and America. Arnold made his screen debut in the low-budget adventure Hercules in New York.
