Throughout time, illustration has been a source of visualizing thoughts and ideas, and has also been a way to sway the public in terms of beliefs and trends. These trends, created within the many genres in illustration, have taken on quite an important position in the art world in the 20th century. However, illustration is still seen as an artistic form where the artist wants to uphold the integrity of the artwork and to show the level of skill they have acquired and can protray in their pieces. It was in this period that many exhibitions were held to display the artwork of the illustrators. Illustrators such as John Adams, Gail Armstrong, Max Ellis, Paul Garland, Amanda Abbit, Paul Keith, and Mike fisher help to promote and further the field for future illustrators. Through member Watson Barrett, the Illustrators' Show of 1925 was held at the Shubert Theatre. In the 20's and 30's was when the Illustrators gained their highest level of fame. Many illustrators have moved into the digital age and have begun to use computers to aid in the illustration process. Today, many illustrators carry on the many genres which have developed over time in this specific artistic field. Today the Museum possesses 1,500 works of art by such legendary artists as Rockwell, Pyle, Wyeth, Kent, Peak, Fuchs and Holland. After the war, the Society operated the School for Disabled Soldiers. The involvement of the Illustrator's Society has proven a strong force in the illustration movement throughout the 20th century. During the years surrounding WWI, Society members worked through the Division of Pictorial Publicity creating many original poster designs. In 1901, the Society of Illustrators was established to help gain respect for the artists who practiced this craft.
