autism

Autism can be defined as a severe disorder of communication and behavior which can develop anywhere from birth to about thirty months. Autism is a severely incapacitating, bio-neurologically caused, life-long developmental disability that has been found throughout the world in families of all racial, ethnic, and social backgrounds. This disorder impairs the way sensory input is assimilated, causing problems in communication, social behavior and irregularity in learning. There is a varied list of general and specific symptoms and behaviors that have been observed in autistic individuals. However, not every autistic person evidences every symptom, nor is the severity of frequency exhibited the same. Some of the major affected areas are: delay in social, physical and cognitive skills, immature patterns of speech, lack of speech or echolalia, limited understanding of ideas, use of words without the attachment of their usual meaning, abnormal responses to sensations and abnormal ways of relating to people, objects and events. Some specific abnormalities are: difficulty in social interaction, resists learning, shows lack of fear of real dangers, resists change in routine, unreceptive to physical attention,

Repetitive fixations on certain stimuli can be replaced by more acceptable behaviors through instructional and behavioral intervention plans. Some children with autism have very specific, very amazing skills. Although it would be difficult to totally eliminate sensory abnormalities, it is possible to modify them. In trying to teach social skills, it is important to make the learning process as simple as possible. Sensory patterns associated with autism can be used constructively in teaching situations by using the preferred stimuli as a reward for desirable behaviors. For example, the person in charge in a sheltered workshop can repeatedly tell the child that there will be a visitor in the workshop today, or repeatedly enforce the new routine of break time at noon instead of 11 a. People with autism often do not have the skills necessary to initiate social relationships. Education services for children with autism remain primarily segregated. He might even walk away in the midst of a conversation while the other person is still speaking. This study deals with the chromosomal defect in autistic individuals called "fragile x. The emergence of individuals with autism in the schools and in integrated community placements has been accompanied by a number of services and technologies specific to their needs. They have found that autistic children showed significant developmental delays in this area. There is a wide gap between possibilities as demonstrated model projects and the reality of services currently provided. Psychiatrists and neurologists specializing in autism have successfully incorporated behavioral data into their medical decision-making. " Needless to say, this view caused much anxiety and pain for the parents of the autistic and further led to their treatment along with their child.
