A Raisin In The Sun

             The Struggles of A White Dominated Society
             A dream deferred is a dream put off for another time. In A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry, many dreams are seen and shown. Through the dreams of the characters comes' many other things including the organization of other blacks, genial slaves, and the transfer of hatred. Many of the problems that occurred in A Raisin in the Sun were due to the struggles of living in a white dominated society.
             A way for people in this story to feel more secure is by organizing other blacks. On the one hand, Walter is a perfect example of this. Walter wants more for all black people. He wants to be better and have more. Walter not only thinks of himself when making plans, he makes his dreams for everyone. Also, Mama shows ways of organizing blacks. Mama tries very hard to keep her family together and does anything that she has to. She wants to move into a new place so that her family can be more of a family. Mama said in the story, "Son - I just tried to find the nicest place for the least amount of money for my family (Hansberry 355)." She wants them to be close and wants it to be just them that live together. In fact, Assagi also organizes blacks. Assagi had said that he wanted to marry Benetha and move to Nigeria with her. He wants to take control in Nigeria. Assagi said that he wants to go to Nigeria so that he can teach his people. I believe that he feels the need to help them so that they can have a better life. Thus, by organizing other blacks, they feel as though life will be better.
             Along with the organization of blacks, hatred is also a part of life that is very common among many people. While there is hatred there will also be transferring hatred. In the first place, Walter shows that he transfers hatred. Walter yells at Ruth telling her that she is useless. Even though Ruth is his wife, he often yells at her for different things.
