Antigone

             Antigone and Creon both meet the criteria of being Greek tragic heroes. Antigone and Creon both come from highly renowned backgrounds and have good and bad qualities. They both have the tragic flaw of being prideful although their pride wasn't exactly the same. They both recognize their faults and for this we feel pity and fear towards them.
             Antigone and Creon both came from prosperous backgrounds. Antigone being the princess of the City of Thebes and Creon is the King. Antigone was good in the way that she showed that women could be strong in a time when women were looked at as being inferior. As she says in the Prologue "Creon is not strong enough to stand in my way"(line 35). This shows you that Antigone is willing to fight for what she believes in. At that point in history women were expected to do nothing except housework and bare children but Antigone was willing to stand up to, Creon the King of Thebes, her uncle. Ismene shows the thinking of the times when she says in the Prologue " We are only women/we cannot fight with men..."(46-47). Antigone turns into a sort of role model for women of the time. Later Antigone starts to be rude and inconsiderate of her sister's feelings in the Prologue as she says, " You have yourself to consider after all" (line 67). She becomes angry with Ismene because she won't help her bury their fallen brother, who Creon said was not to be buried. Antigone shouldn't have be rude to her sister just because they had a difference of opinion on the subject of which laws are more important, laws of the state or the divine laws. Creon tries to be a good ruler when he says "No you are right.I will not kill the one whose hands are clean."(Scene 3 139-140). He shows the audience that he doesn't want to kill someone who hasn't done anything wrong. He proves that he does have compassion in his heart but also in Scene 3 he goes extreme sayin...
