Effective Communication
Effective communication and the barriers to it.Communication is some times classified as human, animal or machine communication. This essay attempts to discuss the way people communicate in the modern society. Communication consists of expressing ideas or transmitting information from one individual or group to another individual or group. People communicate in many different ways, according to their age, cultural background, language and other individual particularities. The speech is still probably the most common way of communication in the present. "All human beings normally speak at least one language and it is hard to imagine much significant social, intellectual, or artistic taking place in its absence." (Contemporary Linguistics - William O'Grady, Michael Dobrovolovsky and Francis Katamba, 1999). Visual communication - such as television, pictures and paintings - written letters and books are also widely used as ways for people to communicate. Likewise, music, dance and almost every contemporary art can be classified as a kind of communication.In addition, as a result of the huge advances in technology in the last ten years, there are many new kinds of communication and human interaction technology widely
"Tadoma is a method of tactile speech communication that has evolved between people that are deaf and blind. In a presentation for example, the speaker's performance and appearance must comply with requirements such as dress code, language used, visual aids and length of the presentation. International conferences such as Geneva, brings together leaders of states from all over the world, and the exchange of ideas is made without the language barrier thanks to automatic translation. In addition, if too much jargon is used, or if the speaker has a strong accent, the audience might not understand what he is trying to explain. For the physically disabled, devices such as hearing aids and therapies, writing in Braille, and computer programs that help the disabled to communicate are just a few of the hundreds of solutions available. No matter their condition, were they are, or whom they are trying to communicate with. Knowledge and experience are many times lost, wen a person dies before passing it to younger generations. Many particular situations such as loud noise, bad weather conditions and interference of all kinds could also compromise the effectiveness of the communication between individuals or groups of people. "Language handicap refers to any systematic deficiency in the way people speak, listen, read, write or sign that interferes with their ability to communicate. For example: The internet, e-mailing, video conferencing, WAP (wireless application protocol) mobile phones that give access to the internet and modern multimedia computers that play music, DVD videos and perform all the tasks the previous computers did, but in incredibly less time and in a more intelligent and effective way. However, barriers such as age, religion, cultural background and preconception are increasingly being overcome. The radio, telephone and later in time the television are inventions taken for granted these days. There are three groups of English speakers. Latin Americans, for example, prefer to stand much closer to each other than North Europeans, so that when the former and the later converse, there may be a problem.
