Effective Communication

             Effective communication and the barriers to it.
             Communication is some times classified as human, animal or machine communication. This essay attempts to discuss the way people communicate in the modern society.
             Communication consists of expressing ideas or transmitting information from one individual or group to another individual or group. People communicate in many different ways, according to their age, cultural background, language and other individual particularities. The speech is still probably the most common way of communication in the present. "All human beings normally speak at least one language and it is hard to imagine much significant social, intellectual, or artistic taking place in its absence." (Contemporary Linguistics – William O'Grady, Michael Dobrovolovsky and Francis Katamba, 1999).
             Visual communication - such as television, pictures and paintings - written letters and books are also widely used as ways for people to communicate. Likewise, music, dance and almost every contemporary art can be classified as a kind of communication.
             In addition, as a result of the huge advances in technology in the last ten years, there are many new kinds of communication and human interaction technology widely available for those who can afford to acquire it. For example: The internet, e-mailing, video conferencing, WAP (wireless application protocol) mobile phones that give access to the internet and modern multimedia computers that play music, DVD videos and perform all the tasks the previous computers did, but in incredibly less time and in a more intelligent and effective way.
             The radio, telephone and later in time the television are inventions taken for granted these days. However these are incredibly effective ways to communicate, in terms of speed, range and quality of information transmitted and/or exchanged. Nevertheless, certain skills are necessary if effective communication is required...
