It's harder to grow up female

In a society where women are taking on many of the traditional roles as breadwinners, stabilizers of families, and high competitors in the job market, it is uncanny to propose that women still are not equal. Women do not receive as many opportunities as men do. By simply looking at the lives of young girls and adolescents, the truth becomes all the more apparent. Women are still struggling to survive in a male dominate world. While young children sit mesmerized in front of the television sets, their eyes behold many different scenarios that speak a million words. As an example, commercials for household detergents and Playschool kitchen sets are rarely directed at a male audience. Most often, one will view a June Cleaver type actor happily scrubbing away at the "hard-to-get-out spot". Her

The expectations that young women face today are to strive for equality in every aspect. In developing a network of support women are being visibly competent. While society has let go of these traditional roles and provided more opportunities for women; It must still strive to address misleading notions being communicated to the impressionable youngsters from the role-defining past. As a women ventures out into the male dominate workforce, she is faced with constant challenges. e found eagerly trying to do the same with her play kitchen set. Does this commercial not speak volume to viewers who have not yet defined the traditional sex roles. Males still have the advantage of getting the higher level job, even if their qualifications are equal to a woman. It's hard not to live up to the standards set for both sexes, meaning "boys will be boys" and "little girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice". Women should no longer expect to receive lower salaries, delayed promotions and limited recognition of positive influences in the workplace. By doing so, society could make growing up female much easier in what most refer to a mans' world. Five to ten years later, these young girls who have been conditioned by media and family as to the expectations involved in running a household, will now be told to start planning a career for their future with expectations to compete for the male dominate positions. It is rather obvious that growing up female is much harder today then what it was fifty years ago when roles were pre-defined for both sexes. Through international women's forums, a global network of women leaders in all fields, women are being encouraged to become visible in high positions. They are now becoming business leaders, doctors, artists, award-winning writers and politicians. Through celebration of the courage, strength and determination of women, we are now realizing that women were not meant to meekly sit beside their spinning wheels or cooking fires.
