never promised youarosegarden

For my first Book Report of the marking period, I chose to read a book that deals with Physiology. My reason for doing this is because in my English 1 class, we completed a reading called The Bad Seed, which also dealt with psychotic children. In the book that I have read, it tells about a young girl who survived a seductive world of mental illness and how she over came it. The story I read for my book report is I Never Promised you a Rose Garden By Joanne Greenberg. The critical lens states; "It's not what an author says, but what he or she whispers that is import

As a result, I believe the lens is true. In conclusion I enjoyed the book and found by studying the book I realized that I bypassed a lot of things that were important in the story. By studying the book I was able to interpret the book and discover that the critical lens is true. Deborah faces a problem inside her self because she is Schizophrenic. In the end she is successful in solving her problems and is sent back home from the hospital. But the whisper of the book is the reason behind it and that is one of the reasons I believe the lens is true. Because of this problem, Deborah is sent to a mental hospital for three years. Another example of the critical lens in the book is when Deborah Blau the main character began to talk to her self, which was obvious to the readers. Because she can only solve this problem, she has to fight back the Yri god and the censor who controls her mind. What the critical lens means is that sometimes in books the author may give you a scene or chapter that may not important to the reader but it is the things that are over looked that are most influential. As a result the first time I read it, I did not understand it. One example of the critical lens in the book is one chapter when the Yri gods are talking among one another and they talk about taking over Deborah's mind not the reader would only over pass this but by me studying the book I saw what the may have felt to be one of the most important parts of the book. Yri Gods were the cause of her being Schizophrenic.
