Dangerous Rock Music
Rock music and the word "dangerous" have been known to be used in the same sentence together; is it dangerous because of the lyrics or is it just dangerous to our hearing? Rock music has been around since the fifties, so has the last 40 years created dangerous people causing violence and mayhem or is violence just in our nature? Parents have been trying to fight against the "devil" music (Rock music) that was corrupting the youth since the fifties and are still trying to rid the world of it. Yet, it is ok to play tackle football, hockey, boxing and be on the wrestling team because those are considered a sport. Parents can only see music associated with pain, sex and violence. There is no proof from either side that music contributes to violence, parents are using just casual observation. Just because of a few committed acts of anger, people point fingers and use music as a sense of reason for horrible active violence. The truth is that rock music is just not dangerous and if we were to pinpoint where the violence in our society begun, it would be in the quality of our parenting. Rock music was dangerous back in the fifties because it was new and different. Violence among teenagers and people have been around since the beginning of humanity. The first amendment is not violated and parents can feel protected and know the government is helping protect our children. The first rock-and-roll song was "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley which is clearly not a dangerous song. This freedom we take for granted but in other parts of the world citizens wish they had this amendment. In the 60s, music became even more louder and created different, appealing individuals. Furthermore, This program is wonderful because it informs the public of what they are about to listen to and it does not interfere with the First Amendment. For instance, the lyrics "suck my dick" (Eminem) has lost all meaning and is commonly used as a joke. Everyone has heard at least one rock song in their lifetime or have heard of it. Some stores don't even carry the CD's that have this kind of labeling which is a personal choice that help him sell what he believes in. People of today believe rock music manipulates the mind of young innocent people. Parents seem to believe just because their son or daughter listens to rock music they are bad or dangerous. The old saying "rock music is dangerous" is part of the past because now we have Parental Advisory Sticker and have the choice to listen to any kind of music without censorship. These students were around fourteen years old and probably did not want to listen to a vary immature boy with no manners.
