Federal Express

Federal Penitentiary, Um, I Mean Express Do you want to work for a major international package courier service? Federal Express is one of the companies leading this multi-million dollar industry. There are plenty of reasons to strive for a job with this ever-growing corporation. As a result, it is fairly difficult to obtain a job as a driver for FedEx. The pay is good, the benefits are great, and the job security is there. For those reasons, they are often considered one of the more viable options for jobs in today's labor workforce. However, my work experience with them was entirely dreadful. Long workdays, brutally physical work, and horrible working conditions, made driving a truck for Federal Express the worst job I ever had. Without a doubt, FedEx is the reigning king in the long workday arena. If you are looking to work eight hours a day and five days a week, you may want to apply elsewhere. For a little more than a year, I reported to the Pueblo terminal Monday through Friday at a quarter to six in the morning. From t

This combined with the insufferable heat generated and stored by the truck, contributed to my overall displeasure with this job. Since almost every day involved well over one hundred delivery stops, the days dragged on almost every night until six or seven o'clock p. Many delivery stops during the day, such as K-Mart, Wal-Mart, and Target, received anywhere from two to three hundred packages daily. To add to the torture of an absent air conditioner, all FedEx truck interiors consist of nothing but sheet metal and black plastic. The simple idea of being alone for twelve to fourteen hours a day in a metal-seated pressure cooker should be enough to drive anyone back to school. In addition to the long workdays, the labor portion of this job could possibly fall under the heading of cruel and unusual punishment. This unfortunate combination; no cooling and the surrounding metal; caused the truck to feel like a pressure cooker. Lacking an air conditioner was more than enough to make the delivery truck an unbearable transportation option. Among the top of these problems are dropped or damaged packages and exhaustion or physical injury. Although many people feel that Federal Express could be a great job opportunity and a wonderful work environment, I tend to have trouble recommending this career path to anyone. To match the rest of the intolerable truck interior, the driver's seat was made up of nothing more than metal covered in a thin layer of cloth. As if the labor element of this job were not enough, employees were not offered a comfortable vehicle to complete their tasks with. Each of these hundreds of packages could range in weight from one to one hundred pounds. To worsen things further, seats in the vehicle were anything but comfortable.
