Public or private school

Maria's daughter has just finished eighth grade and is getting ready to take her first steps into high school. Maria fears for her child's safety with all the violence that has been reported at her city's public high school. She also fears that there will be too many distractions with all the adolescent peer pressure at a big school. Maria wants to enroll her daughter into a private school but is not sure she will be able to afford such a high end education for her child. Though both schools require most of the same classes to graduate, both schools differ in safety, concentration levels, and costs. Maria's biggest worry, is her child's safety at the school that her child would be attending. Middletown City Public High School, which is Maria's home town high school, has had a reported twenty-five fights in the last year. In contrast, at the Moved Hearts Private High School there was only one fight in the last year and the students involved were immediately expelled from the school. Out of all the fights at the public school about 20 percent of the students pulled out weapons to try and

Both schools offer an education to the dearest of a parents heart, their children. Private schools on the other hand, would cost about $5,000 dollars a year. Unlike the public school, no weapons were ever found on any students of the private school, but if there ever were, students would be automatically thrown out with no refund of their money. Some parents think its worth the cost of a private school to keep there children safe. These numbers will too, affect the ability for students to focus and become undistracted on their education and extra curricular activities. Private schools would give all that to students as long as they receive their monthly payment of $483 dollars. With uniforms students can go to school unafraid of being made fun of with what they are wearing because everyone looks the same. In the last year, Middletown City Public High School reported about 60 students were taken to the nurse and required to take drug tests and about 80 percent of those students failed. With simply walking down the hallway and not saying a word, a student can somewhat see what kind of person their peer is. Others believe there is plenty of authority and security in public schools to keep their children out of danger. Students might feel like they should be going to school to impress and express them selves with what their wearing. At the private school, uniforms are strictly enforced and required. However, the public school in Middletown does not enforce uniforms which can become a major distraction to the adolescent minds of the students. And, like Maria, she can enroll her child in a school where she feels undistracted and out of danger.
