Federalists Domestic Challenge
Three of the most significant domestic challenges that the Federalists faced wasthe land policy, which organized the sale of lands. Another domestic challenge that theyfaced was the Alien and Sedition Acts, which regulated immigration and citizenship inthe United States. Last, but not least, The Whiskey Rebellion, in which the Federalistsdealt with rebellion of backcountry farmers. The Whiskey Rebellion was caused by Hamilton's tax on liquor that he levied in1791. In response to this Washington issued a proclamation that called out themilitia men to handle the situation. GeneralHenry Lee and his army marched out to the backcountry. The Naturalization Act increasedthe time that an immigrant had to be a resident from five years to fourteen years, in orderto become a citizen. Last of all, the Sedition Act madeconspiracy against measures of the government, including interference of federal officersand riots, a high misdemeanor. The Land Act of 1800reduced the minimum purchase of three hundred and twenty acres, and spread thepayments out over a four year period. Last, the Land Act of 1804 lowered the prices ofland to even less than before. This landpolicy consisted of three land acts. These three domestic challenges were the main challenges that the Federalist'sdealt with during their reign. They organized these surveys into blocks of land and sold them. The Land policy was the third major issue dealt with by the Federalist. The army arrested and imprisoned twenty men. The Alien Act gave the president the power to deport any alien thathe felt was "Dangerous" to the country. Overall, these issues were handled well bythe Federalist, and helped them establish a strong government with a strong reputation. These four acts were: The Naturalization Act, TheAlien Act, the Alien Enemy Act, and the Sedition Act.
