"What do you think was the most to blame for the suffering and depicted in The Wife of Martin Guerre"
             In the novel "Wife of Martin Guerre" there can be a few different people who could be to blame for the suffering and depicted. The whole Guerre household each experience suffering and depicted in different ways, each has hard times and suffering moments. Many things contributed to the suffering of the family; death, absence/disappearance, new comers and confusion, all of them coming down to the act of one person who stands out the most in who to blame, Martin Guerre. There may be people who contributed to the act of what Martin did, yet the absence and pain he caused people is what to blame for everyone's suffering and depicted.
             When Martin left his home with only Betrande knowing he promised he would be gone for only 8 days, yet the 8 days turned into 8 years leaving his loved ones hurt and depicted.
             Everything was going well, Martin and Betrande's marriage was finally a happy one with their son growing up before their eyes, until Martin decided to leave for a few days but instead leaving for years. It was the selfish act that Martin portrayed that caused the Guerre household to slowly comes crashing down.
             Martin left telling his wife that he loved her and that would be back very soon, of course she believed him and kept his secret quite, waiting for him to return. After a long and patient wait Martin's wife had to let the rest of the family know, but by Martin's selfish departure Betrande was left with the unacceptance and the feel of betrayal by the rest of the family. Left to looking after her son she watched time fly past, weeks turned to months and months turned to years. No one knew whether Martin was dead or alive and the family missed him dearly.
