Yitzhak Rabin - An Israeli Her
In his life and in his death Rabin was hero. Throughout his life and deeds he showed courage, determination, morality and devotion to the Israeli people and country. If we went over his life stages we would see that him being a symbol was not for nothing. In every stage we can see an act or a deed of heroism. Rabin was one of the first people who had joined the "Palmach" which was established in 1940. By doing this he showed the spirit of volunteering and his contributing to others and to the country. Soon he became a successful commander of the "Harel" corps where he led the battles for freeing Jerusalem in 1948. In these tough and hard fighting he played a major role and led to victory. Although many of his friends where killed he has not lost hope and joined the teams who talked about the firebreak agreements. Later on he wrote about those days: "I felt in my heart a deep feeling of moral responsibility towards the warriors whom by their courage blocked with their bodies the enemy from coming...". In those years he has made a huge contribution for shaping the army structure, training methods and relationships with other armies. Rabin is a model for many people who served and are still serving in the army. This act is not so popular nowadays and many people in high position ignore the need to take responsibility like Rabin did. Rabin has become one of the most adored and appreciated people in Israel and a big future was ahead of him. Another operation that was launched on his decision and initiative was the "Thunder Ball Operation" in order to release the Israeli hostages who were kidnapped by terrorist in Antebe. Most of his activities were about preparing the army for the next militant encounter in the face of the Arab leaders declarations. He immediately put in the head of his priorities the need for a peace process with the Palestinians. Rabin will always be remembered as a hero for me. After the army service, Rabin has not stopped contributing to the country. In June 1967, Rabin recommended the government to start a preventing attack against the Arab countries, which were about to invade Israel. In 1992 he was elected again to be a prime minister after a great victory with the slogan "Israel is waiting for Rabin". It is hard to think about another leader today that compares to him and his nobility. Holding banks account outside the country was illegal in those years and Rabin with no hesitation resigned from the prime minister position. Rabin is also a symbol for morality.
