a seperate peace

One of the main characters was Phineas, or Finnny. Finny is a very outgoing person. He's a daredevil and athletic. Finny was also popular and handsome. He was one the boys followed, looked up to, and did anything he said or came up with. Even when Finny gets hurt he tries to play, or stay involved in, sports through Gene. Finny is athletic, but isn't so good with his grades. "It wasn't that he never worked, because he did work, in short, intense bouts now and then." (Pg. 46)

(Pg. 77) And because Finny could no longer be the athlete he could be, he kept Gene by his side and tried to get Gene to do the things he would have like to do. One incident is when he was training Gene for the 1944 Olympics. Another conflict is an internal conflict with Gene. Gene is a follower and goes along with anything Finny says. He feels he has to do whatever needs to be done for Finny. Gene didn't speak out at what he was feeling. "It was a courageous thing to say. Exposing a sincere emotion nakedly...I should have said something...I almost did." (Pg. 40)
