Go Ask Alice

The Book "Go Ask Alice", written by an anonymous 15-year-old drug user, is about the degeneration of a life, soul and body. It is a tale of fear, courage, hate, pain, and the ultimate fight to survive. The story is tough and uncompromising, honest and disturbing. "Go Ask Alice" is a diary of a teenage girl who was involved with and addicted to drugs in the late sixties. This book starts as a teenager's daily diary. Almost everyday for about 2 years, 'Alice' writes in her diary, expressing her feelings and thoughts about what's going on in her world. Alice goes through many hard times in her life dealing with drug abuse, sex, runaways, prostitution, rape, homelessness, mental hospitals, infidelity, and a whole lot of other subjects in the same vein. The Book starts off with 'normal' days and a normal family, and with the blink of an eye 'Alice' turns towards drugs, sex, and running away. The first time drugs came into Alice's mind was when she was invited to a party. One of the kids spiked her drink with LSD, as she began a frightening journey into darkness. This typical teenager thoughtfully and articulately outlined what growing up is like for a lot of young people. While the primary lesson of the diary is not to use drugs, I

Its like the whole sky is pissing on us. "Oh, to be stoned," Alice would say, "to have someone tie me off and give me a shot of anything. 'Alice' is just a kid like any other - sad, scared, alone, confused and without the support she needs to stay on track. I hope we have enough cans - we've got to! We've simply got to!" This isn't exactly something a teenager would dream to do these days. The following passage was written when Alice was in a mental hospital: "I cant close my eyes because the worms are still crawling on me. She was a good kid before, and you can just see the downward spiral in the pages of her diary, her life disintegrates more and more with every page. It tells teenagers that what Alice has done was not the way to go and instead of running away with the problem you can solve it and get help. Several years of fighting the drug beast basically. Its all been good in its own special way, I guess. They are crawling in my nose and gnawling in my mouth and oh my god. Alice gets herself involved with the wrong kind of friends who are always partying with drugs and alcohol.
