Animal Dream
The most notable matter in Kingsolver's book "Animal Dream" is the conflict of feelings between Codi and her father. In the first two chapters, we're already been introduced to two separate points of views of them toward each others. Despise those opposite love and resentment we've been revealed to the author takes us on the trip of the mind of our two main characters, Codi and Doc Homer, her father to find the reasons, the secrets that lie deep inside and help them resolve their conflicts. Although we are offered many clues about what happened between Codi's unconnected memories, Doc Homer's mixed-up flashback we don't understand their connections yet until the end of the book. By using her subtle style, the author weaves in the scrambled order of events in her story structure by creating the memory-troubled mind of Codi problem that is also the major issue of the plot. A major result of Kingslover's clever presentation of mixed-up event is to delay the truth, the secret that ruins lives of Codi and her father. This is something people do and put them on the misery that needn't be done. Furthermore, The scrambled order of events demonstrates how information was collected in childhood. She feeling awkward because she's too tall, short hair. She discovers the truth of her family secret that she has always belonged in Grace. "("The Semilla Besada", 48) She doesn't even remember a woman, Uda who had been taking care of her for 3, 4 years after her mother died. She doesn't have a goal or any responsibility for other people. ("Picture", 66) This unconnected memory of Codi even gives us the confusion of what to believe, Codi or other people's words. By trying to prove that Codi belongs in Grace, he took picture of her newborn eyes and that ruin her memory, give her nightmare and afraid of the dark. Sometimes we find ourselves following Codi's perspective, and sometimes Doc Homer's. Doc homer isolation is directly effect Codi feeling of isolation and not belonging. Right there, Kingslover takes us into her story of discovery and investigation. As kids, we look at thing in our own perspective and it is not always the real truth or reality but our own conception. It is symbolized what she lost and what she gain in her character and life. By hiding the truth, not communicate people can destroy a beautiful and promising life of each other.
