The War of 1812 was a conflict between the nations of GreatBritain and The United States. This was a war fought over the rightsof non-combatant, neutral nations. Issues of this conflict includedimpressment, rights to limit the navigation of soverign nations, andhow a nation could cope if these rights were violated. Forexample, Britain forbade any American ship to sail to a port in theNapolianic Empire. In order to preventconfrontations, the Embargo and Non-Intercourse Acts were passed. This is a process by which the Britisheffectively abducted servicemen to fill their ranks. At one point,British impressment led to the Chesepeak Incident. These acts were in accordence with both British and French wishes. Likewise, the French government reciprocatedwith similar laws against ports within the British Empire. However through all of these steps, the disrespect of Americansoverignty continued. In order to deal with these maters, the American authoritiestried several peaceful interventions. This, in their opinion, justified themin boarding American ships, and abducting their crew. After exhusting all peacful options, theAmericans entered the War of 1812 with great hopes for a successfuloutcome. Due to very harsh conditions on those serving in the BritishNaval Service, many men deserted. The Britishargument was that many of their men deserted and began serving inthe American Merchant Marine. During thisincident, when the American frigate refused to be boarded, it wasfired apon.
