Battle Royal
It is apparent when Ralph Ellison wrote the Battle Royal, he was trying to get many messages across to people. Upon reading the Battle Royal, I feel his messge is saying, that African Americans have to fight for everything they want to achieve in life. They have to fight for their name, their beliefs, and their lives. At the time of the battle there are many different situations that give you as a reader this impression. The Battle Royal is an excerpt from Invisible Man. I believe that Ralph Ellison named it the Invisible Man because he felt at this time that African American's were not seen or recognized by
African Americans were treated cruelly as entertainment, because the white men want to feel superior, they want to keep the African Americans mind thinking that they could never be any better than how they are treated, and that is like an animal. 151) He names these people to show that even the most honorable of men, do not like African Americans. The grandfather wants his son to be friends with the white men and he wants him to realize that everything is not as it appears to be. At the battle Ralph Ellison names "bankers, lawyers, judges, doctors, fire chief, teachers and merchants. He was look as like a piece of meat. Because is shown threw the story how this message comes to be real. I feel the boy's grandfather message has as tong significance. The message in the dialog is saying that blacks are at a constant war with the white men. It is like the saying "keeps your friends close, and your enemies closer". At the core of this message, it shows how blacks were looked upon by society. The pastor is the most symbolic of the men, he is supposed to preach and carry his message across to people as a leader.
