             1. Depression is an illness with a wide range of physical and psychological symptoms. There are many symptoms of depression. One may suffer from a few but it is rare to have a feeling of all of the symptoms. The symptoms are: Feeling of helplessness and hopelessness, feeling useless, inadequate, or bad, self-hatred, constant questioning of thoughts and actions and overwhelming need for reassurance, being vulnerable and "over-sensitive," feeling guilty, a loss of energy and motivation that makes even the simplest tasks or decisions seem difficult, self-harm, loss or gain in weight, difficulty with getting off th sleep or and excessive desire to sleep, agitation and restlessness, loss of sex drive, finding it impossible to concentrate for any length of time, forgetfulness, a sense of unreality and physical aches and pains - sometimes with the gear that you are seriously ill. The depressed person also losses their perspective on life, work and family. In severe depression the symptoms may be: suicidal ideas, failure to eat or drink or delusions and or hallucinations. If these symptoms are experienced for two or more weeks it is essential to seek medical help.
             Depression can happen to anyone- male or female, young or old, black or white, rich or poor- everyone from anywhere is effected by depression. The causes may be physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. There are many causes of depression. Simple things like not eating properly and not getting proper rest can cause depression. A reaction to certain drugs can affect a person's mood. Drugs effect the body and mental process in some way- so it may lead to depression. Repressed anger turned inward upon oneself will lead to depression. Reactive depression or grief reaction occurs after the loss of relative usually brings on this kind of emotional reaction.
