Salem Witch Trials and the On the Waterfront
Almost everyone is familiar with the Salem Witch Trials and how the people with no land had a grudge against the people with land so they accused everyone on the side were the land was as a witch. Also people are familiar with On the Waterfront where poor people are controlled by a big mob and can do whatever they want. These two plays/films were directed by two of the best directors of all time who were Arthur Miller and Elia Kazan. They were once best friends but torn apart by different beliefs. When Elia Kazan testified and gave the names of people who associated with the Communist party Arthur Miller, which was one who was with the Communist came used the Salem witch trials and created a movie/play called The Crucible resembling Elia and all others who testified for giving names. In return Elia Kazan directed the movie On the Waterfront showing that people need to the truth for the benefit of others. In Elia Kazans' movie On the Waterfront he uses a more real
The Jacket was then given to the man who was the person that led Johnny to his knockoff, which foreshadowed that he would be the next person to testify in court and also would be killed by the mob. The mob can just "knock" anyone out of there town and they wont get in trouble with the law while Abby can just point out a witch and have the whole town agree with her and have them hanged. Arthur Miller used film was based on the Witch Trials, which had to do with religion and god while On the Waterfront, has very little religion in it but more of a Democratic way with the justice system instead of religion being based on everything. Both the mob and Abby had a firm grasp on there town because everyone was scared as well as nobody was brave enough to go up against them in court. The friend was then killed before he went to court to testify. When Johnny died in On the Waterfront his jacket was passed down to his best friend who knew about the mob and there ways in which they dealt with people. In The Crucible it foreshadowed who would be the next accused by friends of the person being accused in court as a witch by Abby wanting all of Johns friends out of the way. In my opinion both these films were excellent and must have taken extremely good acting to pull off both the directors point of views. istic set in the Great Depression time which gives you a non fiction feeling, while in Arthur Millers The Crucible he uses a setting that dates off way back in the Puritans days which gives it more of a fiction feeling. They both uses opposite sides of authority such as a mob which would more likely be running and hiding around but instead the run the town, and in The Crucible the poor have all the authority of the rich and accuse them. Both films related in so many ways that you can tell that both of them had a special point they were trying to get out at each other. Both the movies foreshadowed death and gave you many ideas to who was the next person they would convict. The mob and Abby would go through court and win their cases due to their power. Each of the movies has characters that relate such as the reverend in both movies and also the people who control the town like the mob and Abby with the girls.
