             The Good and the Bad of Globalization
             Globalization has had a profound effect on many aspects on the current society, such as warfare and economy. Some experts believe that these influences are mostly positive, whereas critics of globalization believe that the affects are mostly negative. An example of such a disagreement can be found within the writings of Mary Kaldor's "Beyond Militarism, Arms Races, and Arms Control" and Eric Schlosser, "Global Realization". Schlosser believes that globalization only has negative influences on eastern civilization, which Kaldor slightly agrees with. On the other hand Kaldor also recognizes the positive affects of globalization on her so-called "new war" states. The term "new war" is present through much of Kaldor's writing.
             In order to understand Kaldor's opinions, it is necessary to fully grasp her definition of "new war". "New wars"can be fought between individuals across continents and the cause of war is complex. Individuals that are involved in "new wars" usually have the presence of outside assistance. Such assistances she characterizes as Dispora groups, or individuals who are involved in wars fought outside their own borders. Finally "new wars" are "concentrated in areas where the modern state is unraveling..."(385) These areas of concentrations are focused on Countries that are weakening or are feeble. Kaldor describes "new war" as having three different characteristics. One of which is based on having a "shared narrative, often based on a common identity, ethnic or religious..." (386). An additional characteristic is "political mobilization" (387) where a Country may win a war or gain territory. Thirdly, the type of economy they generate plays a role.
