A Letter to a Murdered son

Another Mother's Child: A letter to a Murdered Son by Norma Molen
It is a good story. For a moment it makes me flight and takes me back around 20 years ago. It reminds me when I came for the first time to this country from Ecuador to Brooklyn, New York in 1979. I started school in Junior High School and I remember my mother saying be careful on your way back from school and crossing the projects. The projects are big buildings, like condominiums were a lot of black people and section 8 lives (section 8 is apartments owned by the government and for low income people).
At the beginning of the 80's, I remember seeing a lot of fistfights in my school and in my neighborhood. I grew up in an average (ok) neighborhood where I attended public school. I was a little boy scared of black people. I was scared of black people because the majority of the muggers and burglars were and committed by young black people. My family and I were people who used to hammer down the door locks every time we stop at light and a black person approached. My mentality went on and perceived black people as bad and dangerous.
That was more than 20 years ago. Today reading one more of the few stories I realize and experience how an innocent young black male went threw all these experiences. Being judged by his color and rejected by society. Not every black person is the same as other black person just because the color. I know black people have struggle for equality and I will say that it has been working. Today I don't see that much of separation of colors and my scariness against black people have faded away.
