Human Cloning
In the world that we live in today, there are many issues that people disagree on. It is what makes the world so interesting, that all people, in free societies at least, can hold their own views, and share them with others. It is what makes our country great, the liberty to hold individual opinions and the right to free speech. One could say that never in the history of time has any moral issue had so much attention drawn to it as with human cloning. This issue goes against most religious beliefs, although few religions have yet to publicly denounce or accept the issue. Decades ago, human cloning was simply an idea that one would expect to find in some weird, fictitious story about the future. It is incredible to think that now it is not only an idea but a reality. There are companies claiming to have already cloned up to three humans. Sometimes the law falls behind issues in present day times, a fault of the Judicial System that most countries abide to. When thinking about moral issues of human cloning, the results are almost endless. There are benefits and detriments to human cloning, pros and cons that share equally persuading arguments, making the issue even more complex then most would think. One could argue that
Imagine using real human parts for breast implants? Cloning is possibly the cure for cancer. It could take years to think of all the consequences that human cloning could bring. Scientists believe that genes produce half of human's traits, the environment one grows up in is the key to the other half. " (Holmes, 139) This is exactly the problem consequentialist would face when considering a position on a topic like human cloning. Consequentialists would not be able to fully develop their theories on whether it is right or wrong, because the long term effects and consequences that human cloning has is endless. Kantianism differs from natural law in that it not only depends on it being natural, but also if it is done with the right will and that rational people would do it. There just isn't enough information to fully understand all that human cloning has to offer and also what catastrophes it could bring. Possibly the most important benefit is the production of organs. It is possible that clones begin to take over the world and cloning becomes extreme where armies of clones destroy original human species. It is possibly the least effective approach to deciding about this issue. " (Simon) What a blessing that would be. Well not only is human cloning unnatural, but many arguments have been made showing evidence that it is actually detrimental to the human race. If it isn't n accordance with nature then it isn't morally right. a consequence may be too unclear to let us state once and for all what is to count as a consequence. Are humans becoming to close to acting like God? The long term effects are also unknown.
