Shoshanna johnson

In the current U.S. military, women fight in the battlefields along with men like never before. Long gone are the days when female soldiers were nurses or were serving in some other unseen duty. As a result, 24 female soldiers have died in Iraq, 15 from enemy fire. Today "more women have died in this war than in any war since World War II." (Germany) Despite how many women have died, for the supporters of women rights in the military, it's a giant step for gender equality. People argue that it isn't a positive development but one that does more harm to society than good. And while women now serve on combat ships, fly combat missions and conduct door to door searches through dangerous Iraqi neighborhoods, many limits still remain. They're still restricted from infantry units, armor and field artillery companies in wartime. So while the combat doors have opened for women willing to die for their country just as the men do, the battle for complete gender equality remains a conflict. According to Elias "there is over 210,000 women serve their country in the armed forces, comprising more than 15 percent of the total force". (Elias 1) About 80 percent of the jobs and more than 90 percent of the career fields are open to wom

We also cannot say whether Johnson was allowed similar luxuries compared to Lynch, but those were hometown things impossible take from one town to another. Even though women are allowed to serve in the military they still have certain barriers they have to overcome. (Keith 1) Given that Shoshana Johnson was actually shot in combat alongside Jessica Lynch, who wasn't shot in combat and she has a child to support, that she was held for nearly two weeks after Lynch was rescued. I think it's a privilege to have women serve this country. This is true for both men and women. Now that Johnson has been discharged from the Army, insult is being added to her injury. But when most women are discharged they don't face the controversial issues that Johnson and Lynch are facing now. One can say both Johnson and Lynch got their injuries in the same war, so there is some right in wondering why one "person will receive $125 per week for suffering serious injuries and why the other will receive $375 per week for suffering serious injuries. Johnson actually seems to have a better argument for more money than Lynch's argument, and should be looked at again before another mistake is made. According to Keith "when Lynch was discharged as a private first class in August with an 80 percent disability benefit, Johnson, set to leave in the coming days, learned last week that she will receive a 30 percent disability benefit for the Army for her injuries". Just recently there has been a huge controversy about two women in the military who were captured during the war in Iraq and held against their will for countless days, their names are Shoshana Johnson and Jessica lynch. Johnson now walks with a limp caused by the gun shot wounds she suffered during the time she was held hostage. We cannot say whether Shoshana Johnson wanted or expected the media frenzy that enveloped Lynch, or even if she wanted a book deal. Now I am unfamiliar about the processes that they go through when it's decided which wounded person is entitled to what amount of disability pay and it is also possible that many things unknown to me were taken into account when it came to Shoshana Johnson.
