Have you ever had someone in your life who helped you figureout who you were? Someone who showed you the right path. Someonewho was there right next you even if you did not take that path.Someone who always seemed to be right, but never held it againstyou when you were not. Someone whom without your life would mostlikely be entirely different. I have. Her name was Melissa. Melissa was more than my neighbor. She was more than mymentor. She was my best friend. Melissa lived three houses downfrom me when I moved into a new neighborhood. She made moving toa new neighborhood a lot easier. She was one of those people whowas friends with everybody. She was friends with everyone becauseshe was so special. She was always in a good mood, always hadsomething pleasant to say, and no matter what was going on, she Melissa was a few years older than me but we were both
Melissa was a truly amazing friend. I could never forgetwhat she showed me. Her wisdomspanned several subjects. She wasalways calm, patient, and even tempered when faced with peoplewho were less than pleasant to be around. Everywhere she was, there would be laughter, smiles andhappiness spreading out like some sort of delightful virus. Everything from the textbook thingsthey wanted me to learn in school, to the life lessons that thereare no textbooks for. Even if I did not want to hear what she wassaying. Icould always depend on her being there for me with the rightwords of advice. Although Melissa is away at college and not heresharing her laughter everyday, she is still with me. She also had the deepest green eyes that would sparkleso bright when she flashed her pearly white teeth, she wouldlight up an entire room. And Ilearned from watching her deal with the situations life wouldpresent that as long as you gave everything you had to give andnever quit, you could never be beat. s in the fifth grade and she was in junior high whenwe met. But when she let it down and it waved in the gentlebreeze, there was no doubt she was a girl.
