Christopher Columbus
Christopher Columbus wrote two letters when he landed on Spain. One was in 1493 and the other was in 1503. I will compare and contrast the two letters that he wrote. The first letter was to Luis de Santangel regarding the first voyage February 15, 1493 at sea. The second letter was written to Ferdinand and Isabella regarding the fourth voyage July 7, 1503 in Jamaica. In 1493 Christopher Columbus landed on the Island of Spain. His attitude in his letter was very joyous and proud. He found small hamlets in which the people did not want to speak to him. He kept searching for cities and towns. He found nothing. He sent two men out to see if they could find any cities or towns. They also found nothing. He sailed on another one hundred and seven leagues until he came upon another island filled with man
People were speaking badly of Christopher Columbus. I believe that happened because the discovery brought many greedy people over to take the goods. The people went from being left alone to being poor. Nobody really cared about him anymore and he was a nobody in his own mind. He stated that Espanola is a marvel. When he first landed there were small huts and nobody wanted to be bothered. But now today he is talked about widely for the discovery of many lands. He had gray hair and was very weak. He was waiting for a ship to pick him up but yet was made a prisoner. At first he was joyous and felt like he was on top of the world. This letter was not as good as the first. Then a few years later there were many and they were poor and in bad health. It was a very fertile land and he thought it was marvelous.
