Slavery and serfdom origins

Geographic factors were not the only important component in the establishment of slavery in American Colonies and Serfdom in Russia. Forced labour in both countries was a result of the shortage of labour in their societies, yet was more significant to the development of Slavery. Also Economic factors contributed to the formation of the systems in each country. Slaves in America provided substantial income to their masters whilst Serfs were forced into the system due to their lingering debts. Matters of race and religion also influenced the establishment of Slavery in American Colonies; on the other hand this component was not particularly associated with the creation of Serfdom in Russia. Slaves were of African descent as they were easily recognisable within the colonies as opposed to the Serfs in Russia, due to a peasant's position in society. Geographic factors certainly influenced the creation of forced labour in both societies, however other various aspects were considered additionally vital in the establishment of Slavery and Serfdom in both countries. The Nobles in Russian society could never be Serfs, therefore the practise of Serfdom was issued by placement in society and like Slavery, and serfdom was also hereditary. Over the time Slaves in America provided their master with a considerable amount of wealth, thus the more Slaves a person owned the more financially stable they were. The wealthy people who travelled to the colonies lacked in the skills needed to farm plantations of crops. In Russia forced labour was influenced by a person's position in society. " Their situation became comparable to that of Slaves and they could be sold to another land owner in families or singly. The Economic factors in the two countries certainly influenced the establishment of Slavery and Serfdom, yet the factors were of more significance in assisting in the development of forced labour in Russia. ather, while in America humidity was mainly prevalent. Areas of more substantial agricultural land usually developed crops more successfully. Slavery in American Colonies evolved due to the contribution of economic factors. Slavey in American societies was legally hereditary implying that if a child is born of African descent then that child is automatically brought up in the system of slavery. The weather was cold and bitter which ultimately impacted land quality; this was a major geographic factor. On the other hand areas of poorer quality generally carried out the practise of Serfdom due to crops being less successful increasing their liability of financial problems.
