abortion

Abortion is an issue that evokes, on all sides, very strong feelings and judgments and very heated debates. Most opposition against abortion is that the fetus is a living being from the point of conception. This brings up the premise that the fetus is a human being, are a person. Religion has played a major role in the attitude toward abortion as well.
The "pro-life" argument then is that the act of choosing to have sex is the act of choosing to accept responsibility for the possible consequences, conception. It is a temptation for many people to blame the woman who is pregnant. Many feel that if you didn't want a child that the woman should have taken proper precautions. Not knowing every woman body doesn't react to birth control pills in the same way. Condoms break, condoms slip, the pill-especially the low estrogen content pill-just does not work for all women. Birth control pills may fail if someone is put on an antibiotic, or changes to another pill. Diaphragms, sponges, spermicides all have different ways of reacting to the body. The most effective birth control method, sterilization, is not available in all areas, especially in communities "served" by Catholic affiliated hospitals.
The hard "pro-life" argument, that human life begins at conception, is unacceptable to me, not just because the idea of forcing a raped woman to give birth to a rapist's child is sick, but because the idea of a fertilized egg being a human being is not true. Science states that this is a protozoan not a human.
Religion has played a significant key to abortion, but the bible does not mention anything about "abortion".
According to the bible, life begins at birth--when a baby draws its first breath. The bible defines life as "breath" in several significant passages, including the story of Adam's creation in Genesis 2:7, when God "breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul."
