The Quality of Education in Todays World
The problems in today's society with the education system are endless. So many students are deprived of the quality of the education they deserve today. Many elementary and high schools are improving but deserve more attention with school supplies, smaller classrooms, and need more highly qualified teachers. Schools today are in a bad need of change. Students deserve to have the education they need to prepare them for the future because they are the future of America one day. Schools should help prepare students to succeed by providing text books and supplies that are updated. "I pulled my 12-year-old psychology book out of my backpack." (Galyan 2). Gohar Gayland, 17, a student at Marshal High School in LA District reports she had to use a used 1986 psychology book and had to wait for a calculus book for two months. Textbooks should be updated every five years so that the new information will not be left out for the student. It is important that we update any new information in textbooks so that we can keep up with the current subjects. The more updated our books our, the more knowledge we gain. The lack of knowledge a teacher has will reflect the performance of the students has on a test if the teacher is not an expert in a subject. They lack the knowledge of the subject that they are teaching to the students. Lower test scores have affected the results but there are a few good teachers out there (Ross 9). This will improve the performance of the student in test especially on College Entry Exams. d earlier so that assignments can be assigned in the textbooks rather than having handouts of massive papers(4). The government should invest in today's young generation because they will be the future Americans in control of the country one day and they should have the education to help prepare them for it. With updated materials and improvement in classrooms, qualified teachers are in badly needed also. California alone spent more than $1 billion a year to reduce the classes in the early primary grades (Ross7). We need to find a way to raise more money so that we can have materials ready for students. Applicants today only need a bachelor's degree in any subject to teach. When teachers don't have the knowledge, results become noticeable. It is important for a teacher to be an expert in a subject so that more information will be taught to the students. The more money a school has, the more programs it will develop to satisfy students' needs especially with after school programs such as tutoring. I'm sure there will always be issues to deal with but for now the changes should be taken care of especially with hiring qualified teachers and improvements in books and classrooms are very important. The comfort of being in a classroom will help students concentrate more in school because they have a place to sit on a desk and write instead of having to worry about finding a place to sit.
