That's when Arthur bursts; he can't keep it inside of him any more. Eventually Hester and Arthur Dimmesdale meet in the woods and plan to escape Boston and start a new life together. He mad Hester promise not to tell anyone who he was, she agreed. Chillingworth ends up faking that he is a doctor and tells Dimmesdale that he should live with him. Already Dimmesdale suffers from sin and feels as though he's dying. Dimmesdale is the man that Hester had an affair with, and is Pearl's father. Instead of leaning on one of his fellow ministers he goes straight to Hester and leans on her and holds Pearls hand. While Dimmesdale is telling everyone this, Chillingworth is in front of them exclaiming that Dimmesdale has escaped his grasp. Rumors started spreading that she was a "demon offspring". Hester's baby was growing up and was named pearl. He then asks pearl for a kiss, which she gives him. Unfortunately Chillingworth finds out about it and plans on boarding the same boat that Arthur and Hester plan on escaping on. As pearl grew up she showed signs of being a problem child, and being obsessed with the scarlet A. Chillingworth takes advantage of him and tries to draw out that he is the man who had an affair with Hester.
