The most important decision I have ever made is to help my dad work over the summer instead of going to Romania with my sisters. My family is not always rich with no problems with money. We have our highs and lows. My father is a contractor and he owns his own business. He is always busy in the spring and the summer, but then things slow down. Fall and winter are always really slow. He usually does additions and remodeling and not to many people want a hole in the side of their houses when it is snowing. During the weekends of the spring, I help him and when school gets out I help him a lot.

Two years ago, our church decided that they want to help starving people in foreign countries. They told everyone that they thought the best way to help the starving people of Romania is to have a missionary trip of younger students go over there. My sisters and I were very excited. We started saving all our money right away. To go, we needed to

. . .

I decided to keep saving all my money so I could stay or go when the time came to decide between the two. I couldn’t do both, but I had already started to save up for the trip, but I also didn’t want to disappoint my dad. Then I thought, “I don’t see anyone from foreign countries in the United Sates helping our starving people, so why should I go help them?”

I was also very worried about my sisters going without me and getting hurt or something, because then I would always blame myself for not going. I knew if I went my dad wouldn’t make as much money this year and he would get behind on job schedules. I also like working with my dad so it was very hard to decide. As for me, I had a lot of fun that summer working with my dad. The trip was about two months long and took up almost the whole summer. It still bothered me every night before bed. So I had money in the bank, and some credits in the church that I split between my sisters so they would have some extra spending money. There is going to be another trip this year, and I think I might be going to Romania. Most foreign countries are not very nice to Americans, even though we would be going to help them and their people. That was a lot of thinking for a twelve-year old.
